Bernard J. Feldman, M.D. Inducted into United World Wrestling Hall of Fame, Receives Order of Merit
On October 19, 2018, at an awards banquet in Budapest, Hungary, Hinsdale Orthopaedics’ Sports Medicine physician Bernard J. Feldman, M.D. will be inducted into the United World Wrestling Hall of Fame. Dr. Feldman was selected earlier this year to receive the Order of Merit, an award category, which recognizes and honors individuals who have provided long, dedicated and exceptional services to the sport of Wrestling and wrestlers throughout the world. Dr. Feldman will be the first medical doctor so honored.
In 1983, Dr. Feldman served as the Chief Medical Officer at the World Junior Wrestling Championships in Oak Lawn, IL. Over the past 35 years, he has volunteered his time and expertise to the wrestling community both within the United States and worldwide. He has taken time from his practice and family to serve at more than 120 international events including 7 Summer Olympic Games, the first Youth Olympic Games and more than 25 World Wrestling Championships. Additionally, Dr. Feldman has served at countless major wrestling events in the United States including U.S. National Championships, U.S. Olympic Team Trials, U.S. World Team Trials, NCAA Wrestling Championships and Illinois High School Wrestling Championships.
Dr. Feldman has served as the United States Delegate on the UWW Medical and Anti-Doping Commission since 2001. In 2008, he received the UWW Silver Star Award and in 2013 he received the UWW Gold Star Award for his commitment to the sport of wrestling. He was also inducted in to U.S. National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2010 and the State of Illinois Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2012.
