ADVENTIST LA GRANGE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL: Younger Patients Are No Longer Encouraged to Delay Joint Replacement
“The decision is different for everybody,” says Dr. Ehmke. “I tell patients that when they start avoiding activities they enjoy, such as walking, golf or tennis, or when simple things such as going up and down stairs become a challenge, it’s time to consider surgery.
Younger patients are no longer encouraged to delay joint replacement for as long as possible. “With new technologies, there is no longer any sort of age restriction. Younger and older patients can benefit from joint replacement,” says Dr. Ehmke.
