Dr. Kris J. Alden, M.D., Ph.D. featured in Hinsdale Magazine
Ironworker Reggie Vanderpool, 52, was featured in the October 2015 edition of Hinsdale Magazine for her experience with hip replacement performed by Dr. Kris Alden of Hinsdale Orthopaedics. Her job as an ironworker required her to climb skyscrapers and carry heavy loads frequently. The disease avascular necrosis (AVN) caused extreme pain and had kept her home from work for four years. After having the direct anterior approach hip replacement, an improved surgical approach performed by Dr. Alden, Vanderpool is now pain-free and ready to go back to her physically demanding job.
“When I came home the next day, I felt like a million bucks ... and feel the best that I have felt in a very long time. I am totally pain free. It’s amazing,” said Vanderpool.
Dr. Alden explains, “The anterior approach allows the surgeon to keep the muscle tissue intact by using a smaller incision and working between the muscles and tissues. There is no need to detach the muscles and tissue from the femur, therefore avoiding additional trauma to the tissues and decreasing dislocation percentages.”
